Beer, Food Trucks, Awards…Oh My!

images2013-Vendy-Awards

We say goodbye to May and welcome June with a list of great foodie events!

May 31st kicks off Philly Beer Week…10 days of celebrations, special menus and workshops and, of course, great beers! Just about every restaurant and brewery in Philadelphia and surrounding areas is participating in the festivities. From $3 beers at Triumph Brewing Company to a full day Brewery Tour that starts with Kegs and Eggs at Mc Gillin’s Olde Ale House. You can find a variety of events and ticket prices at the Philly Beer Week website.  Many restaurants will be hosting their own events, so make sure to check in with some of your favorites.

While it’s no secret we prefer wine, sometimes a hot, sunny day calls for a nice, cold glass of beer. You’ll most likely find us away from the downtown madness and drunken youngsters though. The Iron Abbey in Warminster has some fun stuffed planned for each day.  We’ll be checking out one of these…

On Saturday June 8th there’s only one place we’ll be….The Third Annual Philadelphia Vendy Awards. The event will take place at Penn Treaty Park from 2pm-6pm, where up to 18 food trucks will be competing for the coveted Vendy Cup.  Tickets are available on the official website: Click here.  General Admission sells for $55, same day tickets are $60 but may not be available. There is a 4 pack deal available and discounted tickets for kids over the age of 8…kids under 8 are free!  A ticket grants you all you can eat from each food truck (even beer provided by Brooklyn Brewery!) and a day of Phoodie fun, all while helping to raise money for The Food Trust, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization that strives to make healthy food available to everyone. (Yep, your ticket is tax deductible!)

The Vendy Awards are an annual event organized by The Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center, a membership-based organization of more than 1,300 vendors.  The original event began in NYC back in 2005 and is now spreading to other major cities across the USA.
